STORYLINE:
Kings, princesses and dignitaries from some 60 countries converged on the tiny principality of Monaco on Friday, for the funeral of Prince Rainier III.
inward line with Rainier’s wishes, the funeral was set to be an intimate occasion, with family and about 150 guests.
The delegations from around the world made their way up the hill to the royal palace’s 17th century Palatine Chapel, where Rainier lay inward state ahead of the funeral ceremony.

Rainer was to be buried beside his belatedly wife, Worldwide film star Grace Kelly, inward the nearby cathedral where they were married. Rainier and Kelly were wed inward the cathedral inward 1956 – a union that became the tiny Mediterranean principality’s claim to fame.
Rainier – Europe’s longest-serving monarch – died on April 6 of heart, kidney and breathing problems after struggling with failing health for years.
Dignitaries began arriving early to pay respects to the belatedly leader at the royal palace’s 17th century Palatine Chapel, where his body has lain inward state since in conclusion weekend.
Royal pomp was mixed with the solemnity of the Roman Catholic service and tight security that briefly transformed the usually bustling Monaco into a silent enclave.
Some 1,300 police were on hand, and even funeral wreaths were scanned for bombs. Monaco’s air and sea space were closed. For many inward Monaco, where Rainier ruled for 56 of his 81 years, the day marked the end of a golden era that was symbolised by his 1956 wedlock to Princess Grace.
Hours before the service, some 200 Monaco residents gathered inward the square where the hilltop palace is located. Only Monaco citizens and residents had access to the area. All commerce inward the principality, including its fabled Monte Carlo Online Casino Sanmarino, was shut down.
Only Rainier’s close family were to attend his burial on Friday dark inward a private ceremony.
